Preview text of delivery e-mails

What customers see next to the subject of a delivery e-mail in their inbox list, and how to change this text.

Last updated:

In the message list, e-mail inboxes show a short excerpt of the e-mail's content next to the subject – the so-called preview text. With Foxdeli delivery e-mails, some inboxes (typically Seznam Email) used to show the address of the link behind your store logo instead of meaningful text. That is why delivery e-mails now have hidden preview text at the very beginning, so customers can see what the e-mail is about right in their inbox list.

What customers see in their inbox

The preview text is the same as the e-mail subject. Variables in the subject, such as the order number, are replaced with the actual data, just as in the subject.

Example: for the “Handed to carrier” e-mail with the default text, the customer sees “Your order has been handed to the carrier and is on its way” in their inbox list.

  • The preview text is not displayed in the opened e-mail; it is intended only for the inbox list.
  • How many characters the inbox shows, and whether it also appends the beginning of the e-mail itself, depends on the customer's e-mail service and device.

Do I need to set anything up?

No. All delivery e-mails in all states and languages have preview text automatically. There is no separate preview text field in the editor – the text is always taken from the subject.

How to change the preview text

You change the preview text by editing the e-mail subject:

  1. Open Communication → Mailing and select an e-mail template.
  2. In the editor's top bar, select the state whose e-mail you want to edit, for example “Handed to carrier”.
  3. On the “Text” tab, edit the “E-mail subject” field.
  4. Click “Save”.

The customer will then see the new text both in the subject and in the preview. You can also insert the order number, store name, carrier or estimated delivery date into the subject – see Automatically adding data to the e-mail subject.

You can check the result with a test e-mail: save your changes, click the icon labeled “Test e-mail” in the editor's top bar, and look at the message in your inbox.
